Sometimes, different words are used to name the same reality in different countries that speak the same language.
To address this, MODII introduces Diatopix. This is a powerful tool developed by the University of Montreal that you can use to learn about the geographic variations of certain words. How does it work?
1. In the browser, enter a word or expression that you wish to compare. For example, gay and homosexual.
2. The tool uses Google’s custom search engine and it shows you the frequency of use in different countries.
3. Choose the one that best fits your communication-related situation.
